3D printing is a technology that, despite being recent, is transforming the industry given its advantages. The first part will explain what this disruptive change means, which companies are just starting to take advantage of it, showing examples of new business models that are emerging. Then the different existing technologies will be explained, grouped into 7 families, going from the well-known filament 3D printers to the new applications for metals printing. Finally, the key aspect that is often overlooked will be emphasized: the importance of digital design and engineering to take advantage of the benefits of 3D printing.
